Heliyon is the new innovative, open access journal from Elsevier that will publish sound research across all disciplines. The idea behind Heliyon is that it’s open to every researcher, every result, every reader; it’s a broad scope journal, so as long as the research is sound, it’s welcome.
The name is all about shining light on important research: Helios was the Greek god of the sun. This root word gave the inspiration as this journal wants to illuminate knowledge across a broad spectrum. The journal has innovation at its core, the name also had to be unique, memorable, and never been used in publishing before.
We developed the name Heliyon in close cooperation with the renowned international design firm Edenspiekermann.
